This map offers a detailed view of the Tottori castle town's layout during the early modern period. It covers the entire area of the castle town and uses color-coding to distinguish between different zones: samurai residences (in red), merchant quarters (in gray), and temple and shrine districts (in white). The map’s dating can be approximated due to the inclusion of Tottori Tōshōgū Shrine, which was established in the third year of the Keian era (1650), along with the road leading to it, marked by pasted paper annotations.

The map’s dimensions are 285 by 320 cm, providing a comprehensive perspective on the spatial organization of Tottori's castle town and its distinct functional areas during the early Edo period. This map serves as a valuable historical resource, shedding light on the town’s social and structural layout at that time.

This detailed map illustrates the town layout between Fukuro River and the outer moat, specifically focusing on the area east of the Chizu Kaido (upstream of Fukuro River). The map depicts 16 town areas of merchant quarters, with temple quarters (marked in red) situated on the eastern side. Additionally, it shows the residences assigned to samurai households (in yellow) along Fukuro River and scattered within the merchant quarters, which formed part of the overall fortifications.

Each merchant quarter records the frontage and depth of each property and the name of the owner. It is believed that this information on land ownership was documented to calculate town taxes based on frontage and depth, as well as to determine the required payments for the "juubun-ichigin" (a tax equivalent to one-tenth of the property's selling price upon sale). Therefore, this map does not provide information on current residents.

The map also contains pasted notes indicating changes in ownership, with the latest being in the second year of the Meiji era (1869). This suggests that the map was used for an extended period by town councils and other entities for land management purposes.

In total, there are six sheets of this detailed map depicting the entire castle town’s merchant quarters. The layout comprises sections labeled as Kawauchiue, Kawauchishita, Ezaki/Ue Machi/Tachikawa, Kawagaiue, Kawagaishita, and Shinhinaji.
